Cleansing the Pearl Cemetery

Thanks to a grant awarded by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of Poland in the program managed by the National Heritage Institute – “Together for Heritage”, we cordially invite you to three meetings aimed at restoring the dignity of the “Pearl Cemetery” – a burial site from the early 19th century, belonging from the beginning to the former Evangelical church of the Giersdorf parish, currently operating under the name the Temple of Art and Light: the Pearl. 🙂

The program of activities primarily includes clearing the cemetery (including crypts) of modern rubbish, mowing the alleys, uncovering some of the tombstones from the dense vegetation. We provide volunteers supporting the campaign with food on site. 🙂

How to join the campaign?

If you are over 18, all you need to do is show up at the time of the task with your ID and sign a volunteer agreement. 🙂

If you are over 13 but under 18, contact us – we will send you a form of the volunteer agreement by email, which your parents must also sign. You can also collect such a form from us physically, or if you come with both parents – we can sign the agreement on site.

What does cleaning a German cemetery have to do with the program together for heritage? Funeral architecture is part of the world heritage. By taking care of the resting place located near us, we inspire such actions in other places in the world. We will take care of the ancestors of people who left today’s Żeliszów, someone else will do the same for our ancestors in the USA, Germany, Ukraine and other places in the world. Together, as people of culture, we can act not only directly through the actions we take, but indirectly by inspiring with our own example. 💪🏻
