On Saturday, as part of the “Nowogrodziec Days” and “Pottery Fair 2024”, we opened the gates of our stronghold. Those eager to look into the safe nooks of the defensive monastery gathered in large numbers even before 3 p.m. Although the construction work and the state of preservation of the building significantly limited the range of tours this year, those willing to come kept arriving, and subsequent groups crowded in, waiting patiently to walk through the safe parts of the complex. While waiting, they had the opportunity to ask representatives of the Your Heritage Foundation questions about the reconstruction, the future of the Monastery, and the social system of managing monuments.
After more than half an hour of familiarising themselves with the eight-hundred-year history of the Monastery and visiting some of its rooms, each group had the opportunity to contribute to the reconstruction themselves.
The bravest visitors headed towards one of the piles of rubble, selecting historical material from it that will be used in the reconstruction. Thanks to the courtesy of the Nowogrodziec Commune and City Office and Mayor Joanna Świder, each brick brought to the prepared pallets entitled them to collect one lottery ticket. The lucky ones, among other trinkets, could win the “City Treasure” – a commemorative occasional coin minted by the City of Nowogrodziec. In just three hours, the pallets were filled with various types of moulds, bricks and sandstone.
We thank the visitors, we thank the wonderful seekers of the “City Treasure”, who contributed to the reconstruction with their own work! You are wonderful! And we promise that next year will be even more interesting!
