Theater in the Temple of Art and Light: the Pearl!
“Action Medea” is the newest spectacle of Studio Kokyu. The deconstruction of the myth carried out by the brilliant artists of Studio Kokyu – Marta Horyza, Marie Walker and Joanna Kurzyńska, under the direction of Przemysław Błaszczak, is an attempt to tell the story known from the drama of Euripides once again, anew, directing the question about Medea towards the future. For a myth to be alive, it must inhabit the present, hence, recognizing the ancient Medea through Seneca, Ben Powell, Heiner Muller, we retell it in the voices of contemporary women. The performance is a question about a tragedy, a ritual, a funeral mass, it is a lament. In its form, reduced to a pure stream of acting activities, devoid of scenography and stage technique support, it is an attempt to break the theatrical convention and go beyond the architecture of the theatre institution. Radical simplicity determines the extraordinary striking power of the spectacle. On July 13, 2023, you will be able to see “Action Medea” in an unusual and, at the same time, it seems that the most appropriate place for this event – the Temple of Art and Light: the Pearl, which is in the caring hands of the Your Heritage Foundation team, as part of the celebration of the 10th anniversary of taking care of and starting the process of saving and restoring this extraordinary place. This former Evangelical church, unused in this function since 1945, gradually fell into disrepair. It was only 10 years ago that the process of its restoration as a unique place of culture in Lower Silesia, a real Temple of Art and Light, began!
